Welcome to GladiTuesday/November's Edition of 10 on the 10th. Thank you, Mer, once again for such a great bloggy idea. I thought I would do a 10 on the 10th GladiTuesday mash up because I like Glee, and because I just wanted to.
So here goes: My Top 10 Christmas Songs Which Make Me Glad (in no particular order)
- Oh Holy Night: A friend of mine sings this at our church almost every year, and he does such an outstanding job. Part of it could be that he's just such a godly, incredible man. But he's got some pipes, too. Goosebumps. The song, itself is just amazing. Heart rending.
- Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth: Bing Crosby and David Bowie. I first saw this on a Christmas special in 1977, I think, not long before Bing died. Thought it was great in 3rd grade, and lurve it muchly today.
- Sleighride/Winter Wonderland: Dolly-medley style. (okay, that's 2 songs, but I'm counting them as one because it's my blog and i can. :))
- I'll Be Home For Christmas: Bing Crosby
- Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas: Judy Garland
- Hark the Herald Angels Sing: Peanuts Style.
- Shine on Us: Michael W. Smith. We light our candles to this song each year at church, on Christmas Eve. Gorgeous, gorgeous song.
- How Many Kings: Downhere. I adore this song, and am fortunate that my local radio station plays it fairly much year round.
- Santa Baby: Eartha Kitt (because as good as we try to be...don't we all lurve presents??? Especially something from Tiffany?)
- You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch: Thurl Ravenscroft
Runners up: Merry Christmas Darling (The Carpenters), and The Christmas Song (Nat King Cole)
And because I'm so gladdy about Christmas, I'll give you my top 5 must see specials:
- A Charlie Brown Christmas
- How the Grinch Stole Christmas
- Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (Burl Ives wins my heart every year)
- It's a Wonderful Life
- Love Actually (not really a special, but a great--if naughty--movie)
Favorite song or must-see for you?

Such awesome list.
You and I are more and more alike with each passing day.
My FAVE holiday song is O Holy Night...but followed closely by a dozen others...as a matter of fact, for part of my quiet time this morning I got out my guitar and played O Holy Night, Away in a Manger...it may be too early to sing Christmas songs in public...but between Jesus and me its never to early!
Favorite Christmas movie.....kids wise it probably The Kris Kringle one...with "I'm Mr Heat Mieser, I'm Mister sun. I Mister, ice breaker, I'm mister hundred and one!"...or something like that.
Fave Christmas movie for adults that is sort of irreverent and completely silly? National Lampoon Christmas Vacation...I know, I KNOW!
Happy Day friend!
Oh friend, I so needed this...my family has been so sick and this reminded me of TRUE JOY! Thank you. And O HOLY NIGHT is my very favorite...Josh Grobin's rendition as well as Celine Dion's make me cry
My favorite flick is The Polar Express.
Favorite song? Emmanuel by Michael W. Smith
I love, love love christmas music...
I've had it playing since Nov.1 and I'm not ashamed. ;)
Emmanuel is my favorite favorite favorite Christmas song ever. But O Holy Night is a close second.
And it really doesn't get better than The Grinch...the cartoony one. Jim Carrey's okay, but I don't like folks messin' with classics.
Oh...and I'm with Kellie...Christmas just isn't Cristmas without the Griswald's.
You left off MY favorite Christmas song: Welcome to our World by Chris Rice.
Love Actually is hilarious (and yes, naughty). So many other good movies and songs to love.
Very fun post, dear.
LOVE those songs! Except for "Santa Baby". Ick. I change the station every time. You are making me long for Christmas now!
I love this post!!!
Gosh, I love SO many Christmas songs. "Mary, Did You Know?" is one of my more current faves, but I love O Holy Night! I also love to hear anything by Trans Siberian Orchestra at Christmastime.
It's a Wonderful Life is my very favorite and one of our family traditions is watching it together every year. Last year, we saw it at our local vintage theatre and it was awesome!
You're getting me into a holiday mood!
Joy to the World
My absolute favorite.
Oh Holy Night is my favorite. It's a Wonderful Life is my ALL time favorite movie ever!!! My husband is a real estate developer and if this stinkin' economy ever turns around and he develops his own subdivision I told him it must be named Bedford Falls.
Another good Christmas song is "Ring the Bells" by Travis Cottrell.
Love your list! It puts me in the Christmas mood.
oh, man, I could list all day:
O Holy Night--Josh Groban
O Come O Come Emmanuel
The Christmas Song--Nat King Cole
One King--Point of Grace
Movies:
Grinch
A Christmas Story
Rudolph, my fave
Yep, definitely am ready for Christmas!
Oh Holy Night is bliss....and did you know that Mr. T quotes Charlie Brown Christmas special?
It makes me weep.
Even on days that I'm happy.
O Holy Night is THE most beautiful Christmas song ever. Maybe even the most beautiful song song ever. I sing it in the shower and it sounds pretty good with shampoo in my ears.
My favorite Christmas movie? A Christmas Story, hands down.
there is a Christmas song called "Joy" that my hubby sings every year at church. I look forward to it.
Love your list. Holy night is a fav. of mine too.
I LOVE Christmas music.
I LOVE Oh Holy Night.
I LOVE tons more.
I LOVE Christmas movies.
ALL the classic...White Christmas (did anyone mention this one?? Hello??!!), It's A Wonderful Life, Christmas Carol, and OF COURSE Griswold's family Christmas;) AND Elf is a new favorite!!!
Have I mentioned that I love ALL THINGS Christmas??
Oh, you named some goood songs! I too love most of those. Have you ever heard Robert Guillome sing O Holy Night? (Do you know who that is? Benson...?) I don't know How Many Kings, so I'd have to move the Carpenters Merry Christmas, Darling into the Top 10, and also add Christmas Times A-comin' (from my parents Reader's Digest Christmas album, and I have no idea who sang it.) And another favorite special is Santa Claus is Coming to Town. And Nestor the Long Eared Donkey. Ooh, and the Little House Christmas show. And...don't you love Christmas! :)
Love the Christmas songs! I'm glad I'm not the only one already listening to christmas music. I bough Chris Tomlin's new CD and have had it on in the car. To me it is more worship than Christmas, and I LOVES it!!
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...and sound like it...and feel like it. LOVE your list and the fact that Christmas is not too far off!
