My arch-nemesis in elementary school and all through junior high wasn't a her, it was an it: P.E. I was not a)a child born with gracious, fluid movement, nor was I b) small and agile. I was usually the biggest girl, and developed early. I was the last picked for any team, and usually tagged quite often with that sting-y red ball in dodgeball. I even sustained a hairline fracture in 5th grade b/c i-forget-his-name swung the bat, and I was accidentally too close, waiting my turn at bat, with my h.e.a.d. in the way. And can we talk? Red Rover, Red Rover, do not send anyone else over to break through my arms. Why? Because it hurts! I think I need to design a class at the healthclub for all of us P.E. non-achievers who tried desperately to be sick on Presidential Fitness Day, who are scarrred from those scoliosis checks and weigh-ins which always occurred in front of our skinnny, 75 pound peers (who...I find out 25 years later, had their own angst). You know who you are...we're the types that hear that dark Star Wars Darth Vader sound track whenever we drag ourselves to the gym.
Aw...a sweet trip down memory lane. It's nice to see I'm completely over all the issues of my youth.
So? Which one were you--a P.E. achiever, or a P.E. stinker? Don't be afraid. You're safe here.
